The Albany River Rats have one of the greatest names and logos in minor league history, and they are known for wearing jerseys that are mainly red and white, with some black trim. They never wore solid black jerseys on the ice during their tenure in New York, but they almost did. The story goes that the team came up with black third jerseys to wear in the early 2000s, but allegedly when Devils GM Lou Lamoriello saw them, he put and end to the black third jerseys before they reached the ice. Already having the jerseys printed up, the team reserved them only for off-ice functions like fan meet and greets.
