The Jackson Bandits were originally the Chesapeake Icebreakers, relocating to Jackson, MS for the 1999-00 season. They played at the Mississippi Coliseum and were the first and last pro team to take up residence in Jackson. They would be coached by Derek Clancey, who had been a player-assistant with the Icebreakers.
The team was fairly successful on the ice, going 32-32 in their first season and upping it to an impressive 39-24 in 2000-01. The Bandits would win 34 and 38 games in their final two seasons, and made the playoffs in each of their final three campaigns.
Unfortunately, the team ran into money issues and their plans to build a new area fell through. With attendance falling as well, the team would cease operations in 2003.
This would make a unique gift for the hockey fan in your life or a neat find for yourself of a vintage hockey team from Mississippi.
