The Reno Renegades started play in the WCHL for the 1995-96 season as a founding member of the league. They played at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

In their first year, the Renegades were fairly successful on the ice, finishing 26-24 and making the playoffs. The team was coached by former NHLer Ron Flockhart. In Year Two, the Renegades saw slumping attendance and weren’t great on the ice. They would end up with only 16 wins out of 64 games that season. The team did try to make a splash by signing female goaltender Manon Rheaume, and she would play 11 games for the team and post the best save percentage of their goalies that year.

The Renegades third season was the 1997-98 season, and they would try to make another splash to grab attention by completely rebranding. The team changed its name to the Reno Rage and dropped the cartoon cowboy logo and adopted a bear logo with much different colors – red, black, white, and pink. Unfortunately, the changes wouldn’t make too much of a difference for the newly minted Rage. They drew fewer fans and only posted 23 wins out of 64 games. After their third season, the Renegades/Rage would fold.
